The snow couldn't keep the crowd away
Saturday night as the invite only list of close friends and family of Sarah Jayne Riley filled Bar 379 in downtown Peterborough for an intimate EP listening party.
The event started with mingling and drinks while everyone arrived and then guests were treated to the first exclusive listen of the new EP "rules for the collective good" set to officially release April 2025.
The 5 track debut album has a mix of sounds, opening with the ballad Kaleidoscope Mind. The next song Maintenance of the Nation is a much faster paced tune, perfect for dancing and singing along. Save Myself keeps the indie pop vibes while getting a little more personal in the lyrics. The emotion continues in Kensington Market while ramping back up to another danceable banger before Comeback Kid, the stripped down, intimate track that closes the album.
After another short round of chatter and snacks, guests were ushered into the back half of the venue to watch a tribal belly dance performance by Colleen KimiArts. Her alluring moves captivated the crowd and was a phenomenal opener for the performance half of the evening.
The band took to the stage for the most anticipated part of the night. They opened the show with some of Sarah Jayne's previous singles, So Far So Good, Ordinary Pain, Talk To Me, and Let Me Be Sick before launching into their live performance of rules of the collective good in its entirety to close out the evening.
The crowd was already singing along and dancing to the songs, a testament of how catchy and memorable they are. I've already pre-ordered my copy on SJ's website and can't wait to be able to sing along to these fantastic new tunes.
